scorpion + rat = tattoo

This is a tattoo design I recently came up with for a local client. (My first tattoo design, by the way... and I'm not the one who will do the actual inking!)
The idea was to depict a semi-realistic rat and scorpion in some kind of interaction, and was based on the client's description of how they should be posed. ('fighting, but not fighting - equal authority - moving, but not moving - and touching each other at their tails') Thank goodness for clear and unmistakable descriptions! Why a rat and scorpion, you ask? Answer: Year of the rat, and Scorpio zodiac signs.

Interview with Whohub.com

I recently was asked by Whohub.com if I would be interested in being interviewed as a professional illustrator.  You can read the interview by clicking on the link provided.  My thanks to the folks at Whohub.com for their interest in me and my work.

Here's something kinda cool! The flyer for our 5 illustrator/group exhibition is being used by the University of Arizona School of Art to represent the Lionel Rombach Gallery. Also, we've been featured in the UA News for our exhibit, so check it out at: http://uanews.org/node/18913

A multi-cultural dragon tea party... as you can see.

Character in Search of a Story

Credit goes to Adam Rex for the whole "Character in Search of a Story" coinage , but I thought it would be fun to post some of my characters in the same fashion. Hope you don't mind, Adam.

Good Morning!

Quick sketch of my animal family in a tall, skinny format.  The things they'll do to get a little attention in the morning!

Shameless self-promotion

A little rough sketch for a self-promotional flyer.

Say cheese

Death smiles at us all... all we can do is smile back.

Little Red

This little unicorn is one of my favorites.  Oil on canvas.  This little guy was painted as a gag gift for my mentor, David Christiana, during my last semester of college.  Several of my 'viscomrades' and I decided to paint red unicorns in the moonlight for him as a parting "thank you" gift.  What made it funny was because he hates unicorns (says they're too cliche) and he always warned us to pay careful attention to how colors change/get muted in moonlight.  (Red being one of the more difficult colors to paint in moonlight.)  Hence, the birth of the red unicorn in the moonlight.  We'll miss you, David!

Ye olde Dragon

Something I started the other day. The completed painting will be posted in about a week or two, (or three or more).

Here be dragons!

Here's a dragon I painted over the summer break.  16" x 20" oil on canvas.

One giant leap!

Here's an illustration I did of the moon in a sort of sqwiggly-line technique. It was done in white ink on black illustration board. It's kinda big, so it took a while to finish - several nights of moon-viewing; alternating between working on my board and squinting through a telescope.
